Hello Fellow Community Members,
You may have heard the rumors by now, perhaps seen a video, or a photo. Silverwood had an Ursine visitor on June 3, 2021. That's right a Black Bear was recorded running east on 98th Street in the late hours of June 3, 2021. The bear in question is accused of vandalizing a few bird feeders, fences, and even left some fur to show it was around. Thank you to Abdul Abebefe for posting a video on Nextdoor.com. Link the the video is here: https://bit.ly/2RmtFYU. You can see the bear at the 4 second mark.
As surprising as it is to see a bear in our urban setting, they can smell food from roughly two miles away. If you are currently keeping any garbage, recycling, or yard waste containers in your side or backyards please bring them into your garages.
In addition, there was a coyote spotted on 21st Drive SE. They are also looking for food and won't hesitate to grab smaller animals. With this in mind, please supervise your small animals and keep them inside at night time. Coyote's may look similar to foxes but are much braver and like to travel in small packs.
Stay safe everyone and remember, animals are searching for food. If there is food available they will find it and make a meal out of it.
